How Far in Advance Should You Order Custom Cookies?

|Alicia Buetter

So you have an event coming up.

You’ve picked the date, maybe booked the venue, possibly created a Pinterest board that is already getting slightly out of control — and now you’re wondering:

When am I actually supposed to order the cookies?

The short answer?

Earlier is better.

The slightly more useful answer is below.

For most custom cookie orders

If you already know you’d like custom cookies for your event, reach out as soon as you have a date.

Custom orders take a little more planning than grabbing something ready-to-order from the Cookie Shop because every set is different.

There may be colours to match, names to personalize, logos to incorporate, themes to develop, quantities to confirm, and designs to create before the cookies are ever ready to pack.

That doesn’t mean you need every single detail figured out before you inquire.

A date, rough quantity, theme, and general direction are usually enough to get the conversation started.

You do not need to arrive with a perfect idea

Some customers know exactly what they want.

Others send something along the lines of:

“Mermaids, but not too mermaid-y. Pastel. Maybe shells? Her name is Sophie. She’s turning five.”

Honestly? That works.

You can share colours, invitations, Pinterest inspiration, logos, names, wording, photos, or even just the overall feeling you’re going for.

Alicia can take it from there.

When should you definitely order early?

It’s especially helpful to reach out sooner if:

  • you need a larger quantity
  • your event falls during a busy holiday season
  • the order includes detailed personalization
  • you’re ordering corporate or branded cookies
  • you need shipping
  • you have a very specific theme or design direction

The earlier the inquiry comes in, the more flexibility there usually is.

What if the event is coming up soon?

Still ask.

Sometimes there’s room in the schedule, sometimes there isn’t, but it never hurts to check.

And if a fully custom order isn’t possible, there may be ready-to-order or personalized options in the Cookie Shop that can still work beautifully.

What should you include in your inquiry?

You don’t need to write a novel.

When submitting a custom cookie inquiry, it helps to include:

  • your event date
  • approximate quantity
  • theme or colours
  • any names, wording, logos, or personalization
  • how you’d like to receive the order

Photos and inspiration are always welcome too.

Once Alicia has the basics, she can review the details and let you know what’s possible.

The easiest way to start

If you know the date and have even a rough idea of what you’re looking for, that’s enough to begin.

Custom cookies are meant to feel personal, and part of the fun is turning your ideas into something edible.
